Milli Shah Bhashyam is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) with experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with a variety of mental health issues including grief, anxiety, depression, gender identity, trauma, disordered eating, familial conflict, interpersonal trauma, immigrant trauma, and workplace issues.
Prior to embarking on a career change, Milli was a lawyer with extensive experience in the field of employment law.
Her exposure to and participation in mediations seeking to resolve issues of sexual harassment, workplace bullying, discrimination, hostile work environments and wrongful and constructive termination uniquely situate her to bring her counseling skills to help address workplace challenges as they impact the client’s identity and personal life.
Milli is passionate about helping people to discover and reinforce those behaviors, habits and thought processes that serve them best and optimize their sense of meaning and purpose as they navigate life’s journey. Employing an integrative approach drawing primarily from Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and InterpersonalTherapy as well as mindfulness techniques, Milli is adept at uncovering the stories embedded in the client’s framework and jointly dismantling self limiting beliefs to make room for the client to reauthor their story, whether it be about the past or the future.
Milli has a particular interest in normalizing counseling services among South Asian and other immigrant communities for whom seeking out counseling still requires surmounting social and psychological barriers within the community. As part of this interest, Milli hopes to serve individuals facing challenges that are unique to negotiating immigrant identities and navigating the challenging balance between acculturation and assimilation. Milli is especially passionate about intersecting identities and provides a warm and safe environment to explore issues at the client’s pace and in the manner which allows for the strongest therapeutic alliance.
